Discover in Savannah, Georgia: “509 VIBES,” a Haitian restaurant.
BOUKAN NEWS, 07/25/2026 – If you are traveling on I-95 North or South, heading toward Florida or Washington, DC, a route I take at least once a year, I recommend making a stop in Savannah to enjoy a good Haitian meal.
Johanne and I discovered the restaurant “509 VIBES” completely by chance. We were passing through Georgia for the night and were hungry. The hostess at the Marriott hotel gave us a list of nearby restaurants. While my wife was looking for it over, I had the idea to use Google to find a Haitian restaurant. That is how I found the closest one: “509 VIBES.”
As soon as we arrived and parked the car, Johanne was struck by the restaurant’s beautiful façade, which offers the option of dining indoors or on the terrace, a feature our restaurants rarely provide. The outdoor space is superb, as you will see in the photos: it features beautiful images of the Haitian flag, along with tables and chairs carefully arranged to welcome lovers of good Haitian cuisine.
Dani, the son of the owner, Mr. Gregory Roy, welcomed us very kindly and with a big smile. The interior, just as attractive, makes you want to eat even more, especially when you are already hungry. It is also impossible to ignore the appetizing aroma of the dishes. The restaurant also has a full bar, ideal for drink lovers; unfortunately for us, we do not drink alcohol, so we limit ourselves to fruit juice and water.
“509 VIBES” offers a complete menu with a little bit of everything. Johanne and I enjoyed oxtail, white rice with bean sauce, Haitian vegetable stew, fried plantains, and salad. I also took the opportunity to sip a “Prestige” beer, something I had not done in at least two years. The food was excellent. Gregory, who is also the chef, already had several years of experience in the field before opening “509 VIBES” in Savannah.
During a conversation with Gregory, I first congratulated him on the beauty of “509 VIBES,” which compares favorably with other restaurants in the area. He told me that business is going well and that the establishment also attracts many American customers; I saw several of them come in to pick up their orders. The local Haitian community also welcomes the restaurant with enthusiasm. However, Gregory pointed out that our compatriots too rarely leave tips for the servers, even though servers rely on this common practice in the United States.
The restaurant “509 VIBES” is located less than a kilometer from I-95, near Exit 104. Once again, I invite you to visit it if you live in the area or if you are passing through Savannah, a legendary city that still carries the memory of our ancestors. This connection is especially symbolic for Haitians: in 1779, the “Chasseurs-Volontaires” de Saint-Domingue, a corps made up of hundreds of free men of color from present-day Haiti, fought alongside American and French forces during the Siege of Savannah against the British. Their courage is honored today by the Haitian monument in Franklin Square, which commemorates their contribution to the struggle for American independence and the influence some of these veterans would later have in the fight for Haiti’s freedom. Henri Christophe, then very young, took part in these battles before becoming the only king in all Haitian history.
