Héryhan Joachim traveled to New York to participate in the “National Model United Nations” (NMUN).
BOUKAN NEWS, 04/05/2026 – Héryhan Joachim, the talented daughter of my close friends Herard Joachim and Martine Borda, stands out for her exceptional intellect, which has allowed her to participate in international events that unite young leaders from across the globe. Most recently, she spent more than a week in New York as a delegate at the “National Model United Nations 2026.” So, what exactly is the National Model United Nations?
The National Model United Nations is recognized as one of the world’s largest and most esteemed simulations of the United Nations. Each year, it brings together thousands of university students from around the globe who step into the shoes of diplomats, engage in debates on global issues, and draft resolutions in a setting that authentically replicates the operations of the real UN.
Héryhan Joachim’s outstanding intelligence earned her the honor of representing the Principality of Andorra. She was born just outside Paris, France, to Haitian and Guadeloupean parents and completed her secondary schooling there. Héryhan then joined CY Cergy Paris University, a prestigious academic institution, where she embarked on a dual-degree track, studying both French law and Spanish/Latin American law. Currently, she is broadening her horizons through an Erasmus year abroad at the Catholic University of Valencia in Spain. Her remarkable academic achievements paved the way for her participation in this distinguished United Nations program.
The NMUN creates an exceptionally valuable environment for participants. It acts as a launching pad for honing a wide array of abilities, such as mastering diplomatic topics, negotiating effectively, drafting public policy, forming alliances, speaking confidently in global settings, and gaining a profound knowledge of the United Nations framework. This unique simulation allows emerging leaders to engage in “statecraft” in a setting that mirrors real-world conditions. Through the NMUN, Héryhan is able to cultivate the discipline of a professional, shape a clear national vision, strengthen her diplomatic expertise, establish a robust diaspora network, and promote a mindset of precision and strategic thought.
Participating in the NMUN has enabled the 22-year-old Héryhan Joachim to see herself pursuing a diplomatic career, where she could develop clear and strategic foreign policy approaches to serve either the Principality of Andorra or Haiti. As a skilled polyglot, she speaks French, English, and Spanish fluently, three vital languages for success in international relations.
While participating in the conference in New York, Héryhan Joachim authored a resolution advocating for the creation of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East. Additionally, in July 2025, she had already demonstrated her linguistic abilities by translating a section of an Amazon deforestation report from English to Spanish for the United Nations Development Program. This translated document was later shared with the Bolivian government.
Héryhan aims to obtain a master’s degree and successfully pass the Paris Bar Exam, setting her sights on a career as an intellectual property lawyer at a leading global law firm. With her determination and the unwavering encouragement of her parents, Hérard, who is Haitian, and Martine, who is Guadeloupean, she is poised to achieve every milestone necessary to fulfill her ambitions and make a lasting impact in her field.
